Position
The Sexual Health and Gender (SHaG) research lab is located in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University. The SHaG lab’s current research examines gay, bisexual, trans, and queer men's sexual health and well-being in relation to sex work and the sexual and relational well-being of Indigenous boys and men.
We are currently seeking a Research Associate (RA) to join our team. The SHaG lab operates in person on the campus at Dalhousie University.
This position is a casual contract with flexible hours, with an expectation of a minimum of 20 hours/week. Compensation for this position is an hourly wage commensurate with academic and experiential qualifications.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a minimum of a master’s degree. Degrees in health or related fields such as Health Promotion; Public Health; Education; Sociology; Communication Studies, Gender, and Women Studies; Indigenous Health Studies etc are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Strong academic writing abilities are required. Demonstrated experience in manuscript writing/publications is an asset.
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking and communication are required.
Knowledge of qualitative analysis software such as NVIVO and experience in qualitative methods is an asset.
Knowledge of critical social theories, land-based methodologies, and other research methods from a Two-Eyed seeing perspective, discourse analysis, and queer theoretical perspectives are an asset.
Applicants should note how their prior experiences are relevant to the SHaG lab.
Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Qualitative research analysis
Manage time effectively and ensure the Research Coordinator is kept informed of activities and progress of work
Preparation/assistance with grant applications and ethics applications when applicable
Assist with research administration duties as needed
Participate in knowledge translation (national/international conference presentations; writing manuscripts (with authorship) for peer-reviewed journals; preparation of final reports (both academic and community); creatively presenting findings; and involvement in community forums
Ensure all research is conducted ethically and in compliance with the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Research Ethics (TCPS-2), OCAP, and institutional policies
The RA will report to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Matthew Numer. Applicants will be expected to work in the SHaG lab research space located on Dalhousie’s Studley campus.
